As you may be aware, the State of Ohio requires that districts must administer a state-funded college and career readiness test to juniors in the spring each year. On February 20th, 2019, the paper-format version of the ACT® test will be administered to your 11th grade student(s) during the regular school day at no cost to you. No registration is required by you or your student. The ACT test includes multiple-choice tests in English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science. This test will not include the Writing portion of the ACT. Students should take this opportunity seriously as their ACT scores can be used for college admission purposes and can also be used as an alternate pathway for graduation (see the Ohio Department of Education for information).
On February 20th, only juniors will report to school so we can ensure a focused, non-disrupted testing environment. School will not be in session for 9th, 10th, or 12th grade students. Please make sure your student arrives promptly on testing day to ensure a successful testing experience. Students should report to school at normal time and go directly to their testing locations. If your student typically rides a bus to school, bus transportation will still be available to them on the morning of testing. Students who arrive late will not be permitted to take the ACT® that day and will be dismissed from school upon their late arrival. While there are a few short breaks during the test, students will generally be testing from approximately 8:00 am until 12:30 pm on February 20th. At the end of the test, students will be dismissed from school for the day. Bus transportation will not be provided at the conclusion of testing. We are making you aware of this early dismissal so you can make transportation arrangements and have conversations with your student about his/her plans after testing. The high school will not be responsible for students when they are released at the conclusion of testing.
You may find information to assist your student with preparation for the ACT® at http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Testing/ACT-and-SAT-Practice-Tests and at https://academy.act.org/.
Scores should be mailed directly to your home from ACT® within 8 weeks of the testing date. Should you have any additional questions please feel free to call the high school main office or your student’s guidance counselor.
